Given the evidence suggesting that eosinophil granules rather than intact eosinophils contribute to atopic dermatitis pathogenesis [32, 33], we categorized eosinophils by their expression of eosinophil granular proteins, including major basic protein (MBP) and activated eosinophil cationic protein (ECP), aggregated in the papillary dermis of the biopsies.
