Concerning type 2 diabetes, according to Yaribeygi et al. (2019) saffron has powerful hypoglycemic effects through the promotion of insulin sensitivity, enhancement of cell function through inhibition of harmful pathways involved in cell failure that result in insufficient insulin release, and induction of GLUT4 translocation into the plasma membrane from the intracellular pool, which increases glucose uptake by insulin‐dependent tissues. This evidence concerns the gene INS and type 2 diabetes mellitus.
