The advent of angiogenic biomarker testing, such as PlGF (placental growth factor) alone and sFlt-1 (soluble fms-like tyronsine kinase)/PlGF ratio, has transformed the ability to identify high-risk women,4,5 and PLGF-based testing is now incorporated into the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence national UK guidelines6 for management of women with suspected preeclampsia and into International Society for the Study of Hypertension in Pregnancy guidelines in the definition of preeclampsia.7 The gene discussed is PGF; the disease is hypertensive disorder.
