Concurrently, schizophrenia exhibits abnormal expression of myelin-related genes, with microarray analyses showing reduced expression of genes such as myelin basic protein (MBP) and PLP in the brains of schizophrenia patients (Tkachev et al., 2003), as well as decreased levels of CNP (2’,3’-cyclic nucleotide 3’-phosphodiesterase, an OL marker) protein (Flynn et al., 2003).
