Narcolepsy type 1 (NT1) is a neurological disease where the lack of excitatory orexin (also called hypocretin) signaling from the hypothalamus has a direct downstream effect on the neocortex and ascending reticular arousal system, leading to sudden fluctuations in arousal and cataplexy (24). Here, HCRT is linked to narcolepsy-cataplexy syndrome.
