CD8A and neoplasm: Research has been mainly focused on the role of HLA class I and associated engagement of CD8+ cytotoxic T lymphocytes in eliminating tumor cells under the hypothesis that novel antigens produced by tumor cells (“neoantigens”)4,5 attach to HLA class I molecules, forming a complex that moves to the cell surface, where it is recognized by CD8+ T lymphocytes resulting in cell death and apoptosis.
