Hou et al. (2021) found STC1 expression to be high among breast cancer cases, to be related to poorer survival, to promote cancer cell growth and invasion in vitro, decrease radiation-induced apoptosis, and reduce cancer cell sensitivity to cisplatin. Additionally, it has been demonstrated that co-culture with platelet-derived growth factor-stimulated tumor-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) promotes migration and invasion of colon cancer cells mediated by STC1 (Peña et al., 2013). The gene discussed is STC1; the disease is cancer.
