Hepatic function is commonly measured by assessing levels of liver enzymes like alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), AST/ALT ratio, and gamma-glutamyl transferase (GGT) in the peripheral blood.11 High levels of these enzymes have been implicated in several metabolic and cardiovascular disorders12-14 which are themselves linked with increased risk of cognitive impairment and dementia.3 However, it is unclear if these markers could be predictors of cognitive impairment and dementia. This evidence concerns the gene GPT and dementia.
