Following intranasal infection, SARS-CoV-2 replicates within both the nasal respiratory epithelium (RE) and the olfactory neuroepithelium (OE) of K18-hACE2 mice, leading to anosmia and inflammation in the nasal cavity within the first week post-infection, similar to COVID-19 in humans [12,16,17,18].
