In the non-amyloidogenic pathway, APP is initially cleaved by α-secretase enzymes, such as ADAM family metalloproteinases (e.g., ADAM10), leading to the release of a soluble N-terminal fragment called APPsα, which has neuroprotective functions and is found at reduced levels in Alzheimer’s disease (AD) [17].
