Our study identified hypoalbuminemia as a significant risk factor for the development of NEC, consistent with the findings of Mohd Amin et al., (22) who demonstrated that a low albumin level, particularly when combined with elevated CRP (CRP/ALB ratio ≥ 3), is strongly associated with poor outcomes, including the need for surgical intervention and mortality in neonates with NEC. The gene discussed is ALB; the disease is necrotizing enterocolitis.
