ACE2 and COVID-19: In the course of global studies conducted since December 2019, in connection with the COVID-19 pandemic caused by infection with the SARS-CoV-2 virus, it has been shown that this virus enters the host cell by binding to the transmembrane part of angiotensin-converting enzyme II (ACE2) [1,2], which is part of the extended pathway of activation of the renin–angiotensin–aldosterone system (RAAS).
