Both rs2234693 (PvuII) and rs9340799 (XbaI) ESR1 polymorphisms have been associated with an increased susceptibility for SLE, with the PvuII “C” and XbaI “G” alleles conferring approximately a two to three-fold increase in risk for the disease [39].
