MAPT and Parkinson disease: The accumulation of α-syn and p-tau, which aggregate as Lewy bodies and tau fibrils in the degenerated dopaminergic neurons of the substantia nigra, are critical pathological hallmarks of PD [12,13,30] and contribute to damaged mitochondria and excessive ROS production, which results in mitochondrial dysfunction and dopaminergic neuron loss [30,37,38].
