An additional interesting element emerging from this study is related to transforming growth factors (TGF-β3 and TGF-α) and several immune-related genes (e.g., TREM2, C7, SPP1, FCER2, CD24), which were found to be upregulated in DMD patients compared with BMD subjects. This evidence concerns the gene TREM2 and Duchenne muscular dystrophy.
