Research studies have shown that CRP levels in patients with schizophrenia are increased during acute phases [18,19], as well as in cases with more severe psychopathology [20,21], treatment-resistant cases [22] and antipsychotic-free disorder [23], and are associated with positive [24] and negative symptoms [25,26], cognitive deficits [27] and the risk of metabolic syndrome [28]. This evidence concerns the gene CRP and schizophrenia.
