Further pyrin domains are present in pyrin, encoded by the MEFV (Mediterranean fever) gene, in the apoptosis-associated speck-like protein containing a CARD (ASC), encoded by the PYCARD gene, in cytosolic pattern recognition receptors of the NOD-like receptors containing a pyrin domain (NLRP), and in AIM2-like receptor families, all of which interact with members of the pro-inflammatory caspase-1 family [101]. The gene discussed is MEFV; the disease is brucellosis.
