Using a murine model of nicotine/hypoxia coexposure to better illustrate the pathological conditions of COPD-PH, Truong et al. have recently identified a major role of Rieske iron–sulfur protein (RISP)-mediated mitochondrial ROS and NF-κB-dependent inflammation in PH development [233]. This evidence concerns the gene NFKB1 and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
