Galectin-3 is a protein encoded by LGALS3 that is involved in a variety of cellular functions including growth, differentiation, adhesion, angiogenesis, tumor progression, apoptosis, and metastasis, and is highly expressed in many human cancers.45 Methylation of LGALS3 decreases galectin-3 expression in PitNETs; however, not all PitNETs with low galectin-3 expression are methylated.45 Galectin-3 expression has been associated with aggressive behavior in PitNETs.45 Here, LGALS3 is linked to cancer.
