Previous studies demonstrated that CAV1 regulates E-cadherin expression by inhibiting β-catenin-TCF/LEF1-dependent transcription of Snail [40] and exploits E-cadherin to inhibit colorectal cancer cell growth by sequestering β-catenin at the plasma membrane, which prevents transcription of survival genes such as survivin [41]. This evidence concerns the gene BIRC5 and colorectal cancer.
