The knock-down of E-cadherin increases ROS generation and apoptosis in human breast cancer SKBR3 and MDA-MB-453 cells [56] while its overexpression in human breast cancer MDA-MB-231 cells, normally expressing low levels of E-cadherin, reduces ROS levels and increases the survival of cells incubated with 100 μM hydrogen peroxide [57]. The gene discussed is CDH1; the disease is breast cancer.
