Currently, there are several salivary tests available on the market for diagnosing and monitoring periodontal diseases based on biomarkers, DNA, and saliva’s buffering capacity, among others; these include the following: PerioSafe (measures MMP-8 levels in saliva, acting as an aid in the detection of active periodontal inflammation); OraRisk (analyses DNA for detection of periodontal pathogens); and Saliva-Check BUFFER (evaluates the buffering capacity of saliva) [27,30]. The gene discussed is MMP8; the disease is periodontal disorder.
