An increased risk of developing SJS/TEN has been reported in HLA-B*15:02 allele carriers using other ASMs including phenytoin, oxcarbazepine and lamotrigine, although with a 5–10-fold smaller risk compared with carbamazepine (Mullan et al., 2019; Manson et al., 2024). The gene discussed is HLA-B; the disease is toxic epidermal necrolysis.
