Mechanistic studies reveal that the proliferation of cancer cells and tumor growth promoted by TMEM16A correlate with heightened activation of extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK)1/2 and the induction of cyclin D1, suggesting MAPK activation plays a critical role in TMEM16A-mediated cell proliferation [2] (Fig. 1).
