Furthermore, given that CXCL16 attracts (soluble form) and arrests (transmembrane form) CXCR6+ leukocytes or CXCR6+ leukocyte-platelet aggregates, our findings may support further research on CXCL16/CXCR6 axis as a potential therapeutic target to prevent lung immune cell infiltration and subsequent COPD development and progression.
