The same GAS6-TAM receptor pathway that transforms epithelial-like cancer cells into mesenchymal cells seem to be adopted by tissues under chronic inflammation to form fibrotic scars [16], and multiple pre-clinical and murine models have shown that targeting of TAM receptors help to reduce fibrosis and inflammation in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, kidney fibrosis and liver fibrosis [17–21].
