The transition of renal cell carcinoma to a metastatic state occurs when malignant cells disseminate from the primary tumor to distant organs, primarily via the systemic blood circulation (Lotan and Margulis, 2019), which is why we hypothesize that PV-1 could serve as a marker for distant metastases also in this type of tumor. The gene discussed is PLVAP; the disease is neoplasm.
