Trk and neurotrophins are heavily implicated in the regulationof synaptic plasticity and associated diseases. Alterations in synaptic plasticity has long been linkedto psychiatric disorders, including PTSD, major depressive disorder(MDD), and substance abuse, among others. Therefore, it can be beneficial to identify Trk-modulating compoundsthat promote synaptic plasticity to discover efficacious compoundstoward psychiatric disorders. The gene discussed is BDNF; the disease is major depressive disorder.
