SPP1 and neoplasm: These preclinical findings, together with data from our current study leveraging the CIVO platform and spatial profiling technology, are particularly interesting in light of the recent work of Bill and colleagues (36), proposing that tumor-associated macrophage (TAM) polarity is important in establishing a pro- or antitumor TME via the expression of Spp1 and Cxcl9 genes, with CXCL9hi TAMs associated with better clinical outcomes versus SPP1hi TAMs.
