NLRP3, caspase‐1, and IL‐1β were highly expressed in human colon cancer cells compared to adjacent normal tissues, and NLRP3 gene expression and protein levels were higher among patients with colorectal cancer grade III than in patients with grade I. This suggests that activation of the NLRP3 inflammasome is associated with disease progression and deterioration, which may involve the epithelial‐mesenchymal transition (EMT) of colon cancer epithelial cells [91].
