Specifically, PLGA-coated coils have been used for the delivery of MCP-1 and OPN to improve aneurysm healing in mouse aneurysm models.23 While in humans, clinical trials have shown that PLGA-coated coils are safe for aneurysm treatment but were ineffective in increasing aneurysm obliteration.24 Notably, our study is the first to our knowledge to investigate PLGA coating of flow-diverting stents for drug delivery to aneurysmal sites. The gene discussed is CCL2; the disease is aneurysm.
