Meanwhile, the increased colitis severity observed in separately housed Nfat5+/– mice (Supplemental Figure 2A) was almost completely reversed by FMT using feces from WT donors (Figure 3J), suggesting that normal gut microbiota —presumably containing beneficial microbial components — can mitigate DSS-induced colitis in Nfat5-deficient recipients by counteracting pathobionts present in Nfat5+/– mice.
