GJA1 and ischemic stroke: Gap junctions remain open after cerebral ischemia, and it has been reported that the phosphorylation of Cx43 in ischemic stroke might induce the degradation of gap junctions and the opening of hemichannels (Cotrina et al. 1998; Liang et al. 2020; Rami, Volkmann and Winckler 2001; Rawanduzy et al. 1997; Thompson, Zhou and MacVicar 2006).
