Previous studies have shown that individuals with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), particularly UC, exhibit increased levels of various cytokines, including Interferon‐gamma (IFN‐γ), IL-1, IL-6, and TNF-α, which play a part in regulating the inflammatory response in the bloodstream and colon tissue (El-Abhar et al., 2008; Zhu et al., 2019). This evidence concerns the gene IFNG and inflammatory bowel disease.
