GHRL and depressive disorder: Studies investigating the relationship between ghrelin and emotional reactivity are still controversial (Méquinion et al., 2013), but notably, in rats, it was found that chronic central ghrelin administration induced an increase in anxiety- and depression-like behaviour (Hansson et al., 2011), an effect that was reduced by both gastrectomy (Salomé et al., 2011) and antisense DNA for ghrelin (Kanehisa et al., 2006).
