Tiina Suuronen et al. reported that the induction of DNA hypomethylation with 5-aza-2′-deoxycytidine (AZA) could cause the overexpression of clusterin (CLU, 8p21.1) through the hypomethylation at its promoter region, influencing the pathogenesis of AMD through anti-angiogenic and anti-inflammatory effects (Figure 6) [154]. The gene discussed is CLU; the disease is age-related macular degeneration.
