Serum and plasma lipidomics studies of bipolar disorder and schizophrenia showed interrelations between PCs and LPCs, and PEs and LPEs, along with Cers, SMs, and PCs, and indicate that the activities of phospholipases, LCAT, and sphingomyelin synthase could be altered in these disorders, representing potential targets for new drug treatments. The gene discussed is LCAT; the disease is bipolar disorder.
