Ambroxol (trans-4-(2-amino-3,5-dibromobenzyl)-aminocyclo-hexanol), the pharmacologically active metabolite of the mucolytic agent bromhexine, has been recognized as a GCase chaperone: it increases GCase enzymatic activity and protein levels in cultured fibroblasts from PD patients, with or without GBA1 mutations [6]. This evidence concerns the gene GBA1 and Parkinson disease.
