HIF1A and obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency: Obesity and high-fat diet promote activation of saturated fatty acid-stimulated adenine nucleotide translocase 2 (ANT2), an intramitochondrial protein that induces adipocyte hypoxia and subsequent hypoxia-inducible factor-1α (HIF-1α) activation, leading to adipose tissue dysfunction and inflammation [25,26].
