Infection with HRV-1b resulted in significant increases in cytokine protein levels compared with non-treated, non-infected cells of: IL-1β (Figure 3A; 101.3 ± 21.6 pg/mL/cell (+/−) versus 6.7 ± 2.5 pg/mL/cell (−/−); p < 0.01); IL-6 (Figure 3B; 1134.2 ± 194.4 pg/mL/cell (+/−) versus 75.0 ± 20.1 pg/mL/cell (−/−); p < 0.001), IL-8 (Figure 3C; 37,425.4 ± 9632.2 pg/mL/cell (+/−) versus 7397.0 ± 1320.7 pg/mL/cell (−/−); p < 0.01) and IP-10 (Figure 3D; 1140.4 ± 496.6 pg/mL/cell (+/−) versus 103.4 ± 74.4 pg/mL/cell (−/−); p < 0.05). This evidence concerns the gene IL1B and infection.
