The results of Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) and histochemical and immunochemical staining strongly suggested the presence of Lyme disease-causing B. burgdorferi aggregates co-localized with amyloid and phospho-tau markers in the hippocampal sections of two out of ten patients showing potential link between Lyme disease and chronic neurodegenerative diseases [26], such as Lewy body dementia [27]. Here, MAPT is linked to Lyme disease.
