Mechanistically, dual-luciferase experiments revealed that NR2F1 bound directly to the promoter of signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3) and regulated the expression of phosphorylated STAT3 (p-STAT3), promoting lens epithelial cell fibrosis, migration, and apoptosis and resulting in the development of cataracts.
