VEGFA and neoplasm: To understand why C-shaped and X-shaped microvessels form in aggressive tumors, we investigated the role of VEGF-A, as it is a potent mediator of neovascularization; therefore, it may be responsible for forming abnormal, tortuous, and immature blood vessels.18 Endothelial cell survival depends mainly on VEGF stimulation when vessels are not covered by pericytes.45 Despite the above findings, the prognostic role of VEGF-A expression in the entire tumor area remains controversial,26,34,49–54 and our study did not support its significance as a prognostic factor.
