These results are consistent with previous reports that Simvastatin enhances neural progenitor cell proliferation in the hippocampus by upregulating PcNA and other cell cycle-related proteins (Lu et al. 2007; Wang et al. 2015; Xie et al. 2015; Trigiani et al. 2019) by increasing the population of DCX-positive cells in the dentate gyrus of stroke-induced rats, further supporting its neuroprotective role (Chen et al. 2016).
