Taken together, these data indicated that SA responds to specific components of the ASM medium (mucin, extracellular DNA) and PA QS-secreted small molecules (PQS, HHQ, and PYO) to affect the expression of NorA and Tet38, with the response to PA exotoxins possibly reinforcing the adaptation of SA to persistence under conditions of the CF airway as in ASM. This evidence concerns the gene MUC5AC and cystic fibrosis.
