REN and Bloom syndrome: Bartter syndrome (BS) is a group of inherited salt-losing renal tubulopathies characterized by impaired salt reabsorption in the thick ascending limb (TAL) of the loop of Henle with activation of the renin-angiotensin system, resulting in polyuria, hypokalemia, hypochloremic metabolic alkalosis and normotensive hyperreninemic hyperaldosteronism (1).
