TWEAK is a tumor necrosis factor superfamily protein that, together with Fn14, has been reported to be upregulated in subcutaneous and visceral adipose tissue samples from obese individuals.[34] Bennett et al studied TWEAK-transgenic mice expressing 3-fold higher TWEAK protein levels and found that these mice exhibited pronounced weight gain, insulin resistance, metabolic disorders, and significantly reduced exercise endurance.[35] We also observed this abnormal expression in the bodies of patients with sarcopenic obesity. Here, TNFSF12 is linked to metabolic disease.
