Nevertheless, in vitro-generated human MDSCs induced either from total PBMCs, blood-derived CD14 cells or hematopoietic progenitors by different combinations of growth factors have been shown to acquire immunosuppressive functions comparable to ex vivo-induced MDSCs [34–37]: e.g. MDSCs induced from CD14 cells by human melanoma cells resemble MDSCs characterized in patients with advanced stage melanoma [38].
