In 2009, Fernández‐Real and Handberg found that sCD36, in a male cohort, was positively correlated with alanine aminotransferase, aspartate aminotransferase, and gamma‐glutamyl transferase in subjects with impaired glucose tolerance but not in individuals with normal glucose tolerance,87 suggesting a correlation between alanine aminotransferase and sCD36 and that circulating sCD36 may be a new marker of liver injury in subjects with altered glucose tolerance.
