In several cancers, such as acute myeloid leukaemia8 and glioblastoma,9 FTO promotes tumourigenesis by demethylating m6A on the transcripts of critical oncogenes; conversely, FTO acts as a tumour suppressor in other cancers, such as prostatic cancer,10 through its regulation of key downstream targets and signalling pathways. The gene discussed is FTO; the disease is neoplasm.
